Principal's Closing Ceremony Speech

Good morning, teachers and students!

A few days ago, at the "Cheng Kee Middle School Grade 5 Talent Competition", the emcee introduced me as the smiling and serious principal!

First of all, thank you to the student emcee for the description that day.

Standing at the school gate in the morning to greet everyone, saying "Good morning," making eye contact, interacting, and responding—this is the spirit that young people should have. In fact, the students' reactions are a great encouragement to the principal, a good start to the day! The principal thanks you all! We hope you have made it a habit to greet your colleagues, staff, and teachers every morning upon returning to school, as a good beginning to your day!

In recent years, the school has emphasized extracurricular activities and continued to develop students' technological training. Multiple Friday afternoons feature diverse activity festivals, including sports, music, art, hobbies, service, field trips, and more. Next year, there will be even more Friday activity festivals, and Form 4 students will participate in the Senior Two Applied Learning program as part of their preparation for the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSE).

We also offer diverse STEAM technology activities, experiences, and competitions both on and off campus for students of all levels, covering areas such as robotics, drones, programming, science and physics, biochemistry, and mathematics, in line with local and national development plans to cultivate technology talent. Next year, we will also explore some AI-assisted learning.

Three or four years ago, when you were still in junior high or primary school, you all experienced school closures due to the pandemic, the inability to attend classes and activities in person, and being forced to learn online. The school's development since the pandemic in 2023 aims to help students quickly reintegrate into school life. I firmly believe that this year's Form 3, 4, and 5 students have all experienced the changes at the school.

In the past two or three years, there have been updates and deliberate efforts to create a positive atmosphere: in addition to regular government renovations, recent additions include a new library, various CCCSS exhibitions, a renovated school lobby with live television broadcasts, renovations to three teachers' offices, air conditioning in the cafeteria, ongoing construction on two elevators, a gym, an Innospace, a student and teacher café, and electronic blackboards in classrooms. All Form 1 and Form 2 students this year have benefited, and the students are truly grateful to the school for investing so many resources to improve the school's environment and facilities!

Student learning-related concerns include group collaboration in the classroom: learning "together" and "mutually"; promoting communication among classmates, learning to listen and express, respect and appreciate, and connecting with each other; and encouraging students of different abilities to support each other, thereby building a sense of belonging to the class and the school.

The "comprehensive learning" approach breaks down learning difficulties into smaller, manageable steps, allowing students to "pass" and "meet the standard." Through short quizzes of about ten minutes each, students develop a sense of accomplishment and feel they have "learned something," facilitating review and accumulating knowledge gradually. This method is effective, helping students prepare for exams and promoting continuous progress!

The student survey results show that students have responded positively to the learning measures deliberately arranged by the school over the past two years. Next year, the school will continue to strengthen these measures and make good use of the advantages of AI tools to help students learn more effectively, make continuous progress, and learn even better!

This year, thanks to the experiences and hard work of students across all grades, we have achieved numerous awards in various categories: solo vocal performance, wind instruments, percussion, choir, Cantonese-Mandarin-English recitation, track and field, cross-country running, basketball, 3x3 basketball, swimming, taekwondo, cycling, rowing, badminton, dance, Latin dance, drama, painting, Western painting, calligraphy, design and crafts, STEAM, and other subject-related competitions. Congratulations to all students and teachers on your wonderful achievements!

I hope students understand that the school's plans and efforts are entirely due to the teachers' hard work; the opening quote from Zhengji's emcee, introducing the principal, highlights his dedication. The principal meticulously plans and formulates work plans, while the teachers diligently dedicate their time and effort to implementing and executing them, all in the shared hope that students will benefit. I hope students will be grateful to their teachers.

In the past two years since the pandemic, the school has deliberately and gradually resumed overseas exchanges. Students had the opportunity to participate in exchange programs in the UK last summer, and this year the school has organized various exchange programs in mainland China, including to Hangzhou, Shanghai, Beijing, and cities in the Greater Bay Area. Students will have more opportunities in the future, so please seize the various opportunities to learn about the country's development!

This year, we must mention our boys' basketball team, who bravely won the Sha Tin & Sai Kung District Inter-School Championship! Looking back at the records, our school's last basketball championship was in 2001! This breakthrough after more than 20 years is truly remarkable! I believe the basketball team members all agree that this championship belongs not only to the players who gave their all, but also to the supportive classmates and teammates who accompanied us during training, and the teachers and alumni who cheered us on during the championship game! I hope this spirit of unity, solidarity, and striving for a common goal can be extended to all student organizations and teams, large and small, within the school, becoming a core part of Zhengzhi Middle School's excellent culture! And this spirit of giving it your all and never giving up can also be reflected in your academic studies!

Wishing all students good health and academic progress; and all teachers success in their work and harmony in their families!
